often the architects of south america took the modern movement to one level more. maybe they had more vision, or maybe their clients were a bit more crazy. the work of paulo medes da rocha of brasil amazes me. yet his brutal use of concrete, heavy and unforgiving, feels natural like it was carved from stone, mixed with natural woods, and surrounded by trees. this example, his own home, feels like a perfect place to feel cool, dark and hidden, to move around unnoticed yet open and fresh. i think this is one of my favorite homes
