openhouse

known for his use of bright colours, purple, pink, yellow and blue, luis barragan  , mexico, for me is an artist of the minimal space. i show a lot new architects from japan because i love how the work the space, and change the concept of how to live, but a lot of minimal architects these days are too pure and make me feel like i would be living in a gallery, a cold space. for me luis barragan has such pure lines, grand heights, and simple spaces, like the minimalists of today, yet his use of materials, however basic are so rich and earthy, the simple thick wooden furniture, the volcanic black stone floors, that even in the largest of spaces you feel right at home. this is when tradition meets with the modern, and this idea i had when i started openhouse, simple yet warm pieces, with a quality of work and a beauty in the material. luis barragan has to be one of my favorite architects, and i will always try to make my spaces feel a little like his. this is his own house, in mexico city
