i first discovered the furniture of george nakashima by seeing the house at the bottom by marcio kogan in brazil. born in america in 1905 george studied architecture, travelled to paris and then india and was the site architect for the countries first concrete building. he travelled to japan and returned to the usa when the war broke out. he got a job on a farm, and set up a workshop. the beauty in his simple furniture is the naturalness. he leaves the pieces as they are found, so each piece is different, withe the knots, shapes and colours. now his daughter mira looks after the workshop and the craftsman that george taught.
