architecture australia : harry seidler by max dupain

i moved to australia when i was 16 with my parents to escape cold and the rain in northern england. it’s there that i studied interior design. i had always been interested in architecture, always drawing plans for houses (still do… little fantasies) but it was in australia where i discovered the buildings of harry seidler. you can’t miss them, every australian city has one of his skyscrapers, if not two of three. but it is his early house from the 1950’s and 60’s that i love. beautifully simple, relating to the case study house of america,(one of my favorite periods) with a little something of his own. his later works take on a style that is so recognisably ‘harry seidler’. all photos : max dupain
