big roof : architecture : gae house : japan : atelier bow wow

one of my favorite (i seam to be always writing this, but i guess i wouldn’t put things here if i didn’t like it) japanese architecture practices is atelier bow wow. they they have the thing i love with japanese firms, of changing the idea of living and creating interest with very small spaces. yet atelier bow wow are not so formal in the minimalistic approach , they inject a lot of humor in there too. like with the gae house, its huge roof is actually the living room and all the windows look down to the street, letting light in, but not directly, and giving a different view on life. the study and bedroom are in the basement, you dont need windows to sleep or dsitraction to work, and the utilities on the ground floor. genius
